Production of primary and secondary fluorine-containing alcohol

1992
PURPOSE: To obtain primary and secondary fluorine-contg. alcohol at high yield by bringing a perfluoroalkylethylene compd. to react with an alkanol compd. in the presence of a free radical initiator under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION: (A) the compd. of the formula RfCH=CH 2 (Rf is a 1-20C perfluoroalkyl residue), (B) an alkanol compd. and (C) a free radical initiator are used in the molar ratio of 1:(20 to 50):(0.002 to 0.2). At first, the components B are charged, thereafter, heating is executed at the temp. lower than the temp. in the half value period for one min of the components C by 50°C to the temp. higher by 10°C (the temp. from 50 to 230°C), and while this temp. is held, the components A and the components C are simultaneously and continuously added to the components B for 1 to 10 hrs. (preferably, 2 to 8 hrs.) to obtain the objective compd. of the formula (R is H or a 1-5C alkyl residue). COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO
