Vulnerability and Health: Exploring the Linkages in a Case Study from Southern Africa

This chapter provides an overview of the relationship between climate and health and highlights some of the intersections (and reinforcing vulnerabilities). It pays specific attention to Africa, outlining direct and indirect effects of climate on health. It also introduces the field of social, or contextual, vulnerability to climate, with a community-level case study from South Africa and shows how health status is a key determinant.
