The gyrotron system for ceramics sintering

1995
The prospects of using millimeter-wave radiation for ceramics sintering stem primarily from the analysis of the production scale-up problem. A gyrotron is a unique source of microwave radiation in that its output power does not fall drastically in the millimeter-wave range. The description of the gyrotron-based system designed and manufactured purposely for high-temperature processing of materials is presented. Attention is paid to general concepts of the system which includes: the gyrotron with power up to 10 kW at 30 GHz, the oil-cooled magnet, the quasioptic transmission line, vacuum-proof microwave furnace, and the PC-based feedback control system. Main directions in the Institute of Applied Physics today`s research in microwave-matter interaction are described.
