Quantification of $CO_2$ Emission from the Construction Industry -Placing Emphasis on Construction Materials-
1998
The emission from construction process was quantified as one of the main factors causing a global warming problem. Generally, in human activities is produced from not only direct energy consumption but also indirect provision of goods and services. In this paper, individual emission of construction materials was calculated by analyzing the 1990 Input-Output Table which contains 405 sectors of all industries in Korea. In addition, the emission in the construction of residential building was also estimated as an application case. As the result, in most of construction materials, the main cause of emission was the direct energy consumption of the production process. However, in cases of several materials such as synthetic resin, plastic products and pi9 iron, a large portion of emission was induced by the indirect input materials or services. And in the case study, the emission from building construction was mainly due to the actual construction work having 84.5% of total emission.
