Concrete and Sustainability

The history of mankind can be said to coincide with the history of infrastructure for the socioeconomic activities of human beings. Today, an enormous amount of resources and energy are consumed for infrastructure development. This paper argues first concerning the essence of sustainability for the concrete sector, and then conducts an overview of the current status of the sector‟s CO2 emissions, discusses its reduction scenario in relation to the next generation concrete technology, and finally takes a comprehensive look at the construction industry in the global environmental era.
