Manejo integrado de plagas de almacén en Jesús Menéndez

2019
This investigation was carried out in the 636 Warehouse of the Food Industry of Jesus Menendez Municipality, Las Tunas Province, Cuba, where foodstuffs of the population in the territory are stored. The products for the control of plagues that were applied were toxic chemicals for humans and the environment, that is, the Integrated Pest Management in warehouses had not been implemented. In visits made to supervise the work in the pest control of the warehouse, it is detected that only a routine sampling and immediate application of chemicals is done, without considering rates of infestation of the pests, economic importance of the same, high number of applications among others, for this reason it is proposed to do an Integrated management of pests. After implementing this management in this warehouse, it was possible to reduce the fumigation with aluminum phosphide and other pesticides considerably, keeping the pest indexes low with a program of sanitization, cleaning, use of repellent plants, color traps, molasses traps and a systematic application of biological means produced in the Center for Reproduction of Entomophagus and Entomopathogenics, belonging to the Agricultural Company of Jesus Menendez. All this allowed contributing with the safety of the food stored here, as well as the reduction of the toxic load in the environment. The value of the treatments is reduced by transportation cost and salary expense.
