The ASK Network : Glasgow Specification of Data Capture

2013
The Glasgow ASK (Accessing Subsurface Knowledge) network is proving to be an exemplar for wider roll-out in the UK and further afield, and has developed GSPEC (Glasgow Specification of Data Capture), now a GCC mandatory standard for all working with subsurface data in Glasgow. BGS also developed a web portal for clients and consultants to upload their subsurface data. Alex Scott at Scottish Water said “Using ASK Network 3D models from BGS has increased certainty in project planning, improved estimating and financial forecasting, and given us greater confidence in option selection in infrastructure upgrades in Glasgow.” Iain Hall at Grontmij said –“applying GSPEC has led to significant benefits, including improved ability in data handling, reduced financial risk to design, and rapid 3D visualisation of data. These have given improved confidence of ground conditions and enabled closer attainment of optimum design.”
