COMPETENCIA ACADÉMICA Y ESTILOS DE APRENDIZAJE EN ALUMNOS UNIVERSITARIOS

Nos propusimos evaluar la relacion existente entre los estilos de aprendizaje de los alumnos universitarios y la percepcion que tienen ellos de su competencia academica. La competencia academica esta relacionada con el autoconcepto y la percepcion que la persona tiene de si mismo (Harter, 1999). Al Estilo de Aprendizaje Honey y Mumford (1986) lo definen como una descripcion de las actitudes y comportamientos que determinan la forma preferida de aprendizaje del individuo. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 189 alumnos universitarios de la Universidad Adventista del Plata (50%) y de la Universidad Catolica Argentina sede Parana (50%), que cursan el primer ano de las carreras de medicina, psicologia y psicopedagogia. Encontramos que la variable estilo de aprendizaje reflexivo se relaciona positivamente con la competencia academica, a diferencia de los estilos pragmatico y activo. Sin embargo, cuando los valores del estilo reflexivo son muy altos esta relacion se invierte y los alumnos adoptan una valoracion mas negativa de su habilidad academica. Palabras clave Estilo Aprendizaje Competencia Academica ABSTRACT ACADEMIC COMPETENCE AND LEARNING STYLES IN SCHOLARS Our objective was to assess the existing relation between the learning styles of university students and their perception of their academic competence. Academic competence is related to self-concept and to the person’s self perception (Harter, 1999). According to Honey and Mumford (1986) the learning style is defined as the description of attitudes and behaviours that determine the individual’s favourite way of learning. The sample comprised 189 scholars from the River Plate Adventist University (50%) and from the Catholic University of Argentina, Parana branch (50%), who are in the first year of Medicine, Psychology and Psychopedagogics careers. We found out that the reflexive learning style is positive correlated to academic competence, different from pragmatic and active styles. Howeer, when the reflexive style values are very high this relation gets inverted and scholars take a more negative evaluation of their academic skills. Key words Learning Style Academic Competence
