INVESTIGATION OF RADIATION SHIELDING PROPERTIES OF GLASS COATED BY TiO2 USING GAMMA-RAY SPECTROSCOPY

2010
Abstract. - The radiation shielding properties of glass have been calcu-lated at 1 keV- 1 GeV and compared with the measurement performed usinggamma spectrometer connected to NaI(Tl) detector at 662, 1170 and 1332 keV.The possibility of radiation shielding properties of glass has been investigatedby coating glass with the TiO 2 . 1. IntroductionThe glass is widely used material in difierent purposes such as window and personelglass. For this reason, choosing of glass type or improving of glass properties havebecame important. Although there are several way to use glass in difierent format, the coating of the glass is becomes important. TiO 2 (titanium dioxide) has beenstarted to be used in researches very frequently in recent years because of its difierentchemical, electrical and optical characteristics[1]. TiO 2 occurs in at least seven difier-ent polymorphic forms, four of which are found in nature. Rutile is a crystallizationproduct of igneous rocks, and rutile, anatase, brookite and TiO
