Homeostatic indices in persons subjected to ionizing radiation exposure

: Over the period of 1986-1990 a comprehensive evaluation was carried out in a series of a 5578 subjects exposed to ionizing radiation because of Chernobyl NPP breakdown, using hematologic, immunologic and biochemical methods of investigation. The above series included liquidators of aftermath of the accident, residents of Pripyat' and Kiev. Changes were revealed in all the parameters studied. In view of the abnormal changes in the values for blood, immunologic status and biochemical tests characterizing the functional state of the liver in those subjects having been in the area of abnormal radiation, as well as its potential remote sequelae, it is advisable that the above contingents of the population be under prophylactic management.
