Tubal occlusion by application of silastic rings: preliminary report on 200 cases. (Abstract only)

1977
200 female sterilization procedures performed by laparoscopic application of silastic Falope rings are reported. High parity was the primary indication for sterilization in 98% of the cases. Electrocoagulation was performed in 5 cases because of difficulty in applying the rings. Double rings were used in another 5 cases because of doubts of the adequate placement of the 1st ring. Bleeding complications were primarily due to defective application of the rings which caused tearing of the mesosalpinx and in some cases of entire sections of the tubes. Lower abdominal pain persisting for more than 24 hours was a frequent postoperative side effect. The average procedure took 33 minutes to perform and the length of hospitalization was usually less than 8 hours.
