DEVELOPMENT OF A LIGHT-WEIGHT EMERGENCY BRIDGE

2003
This paper describes the design of a lightweight emergency bridge composed of glass fiber-reinforced polymer, and evaluates recent experimental investigations performed in support of research on lightweight bridges made of high performance materials. The aim of the project was to develop a single-lane bridge for a span of 20.0 m and MLC 12-loads to achieve cost effectiveness by using pultruded glass fiber profiles commonly available on the market in connection with bonded steel reinforcement for bolted joints. A testing program was executed to provide information on failure criteria and temperature behavior of bonded hybrid connections.
