Bewertung bergbaulicher Hinterlassenschafter : Programm in Sachsen, Thüringen und Sachsen-Anhalt

1996
On behalf of the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection and the Gesellschaft far Anlagen- und Reaktorsicherheit (GRS), areas in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia in which uranium and, in earlier times, also other mineral resources were mined, are being examined for the legacies of these past mining activities. 34 areas suspected of contamination were examined outside the responsibility of Wismut GmbH. Together with 300 Wismut sites, this added up to some 6000 former mining areas, whose parameters were entered into the contaminated site register, A.las.ka. According to a first classification, 34% of the sites and 89% of the areas considered, i.e. 3400 ha remained for further examination. As results for some of these areas are already available, another 2300 ha still need to be analyzed in measurement programs.
