Studyobjective -Thestudyaimedtodeterminetherelative riskofbeingaccepted forrenalreplacement treatment ofblack and Asianpopulations comparedwith whites inrelation toage,sex,andunderlyingcause.Theimplications forpopulation needforrenalreplacement therapy in thesepopulations and forthedevelopment ofrenalservices werealsoconsidered. Designisetting -Thiswasacrosssectional retrospective surveyofallpatients accepted forrenalreplacement treatment in renalunits inEnglandin1991and1992. Patients - Thesecomprisedall5901 patients resident inEnglandwithendstagerenalfailure whohadbeenaccepted forrenalreplacement therapyinrenal unitsinEnglandandwhoseethniccategorywas available from the units. Patients werecategorised aswhite, Asian, black, orother. Population denominators fortheethnic populations weretakenfrom the1991census.
