Studyobjective -Thestudyaimedtodeterminetherelative riskofbeingaccepted forrenalreplacement treatment ofblack and Asianpopulations comparedwith whites inrelation toage,sex,andunderlyingcause.Theimplications forpopulation needforrenalreplacement therapy in thesepopulations and forthedevelopment ofrenalservices werealsoconsidered. Designisetting -Thiswasacrosssectional retrospective surveyofallpatients accepted forrenalreplacement treatment in renalunits inEnglandin1991and1992. Patients - Thesecomprisedall5901 patients resident inEnglandwithendstagerenalfailure whohadbeenaccepted forrenalreplacement therapyinrenal unitsinEnglandandwhoseethniccategorywas available from the units. Patients werecategorised aswhite, Asian, black, orother. Population denominators fortheethnic populations weretakenfrom the1991census. Thecensuscategories Indian, Pakistani, andBangladeshi wereaggregated toformthedenominator for Asianpatients, and blackCaribbeans, blackAfricans, andblackothers wereaggregated to formthedenominator for
