Analytical and experimental study of using recycled tire products in pavement-grade concrete suited for hot weather climates

2021
Abstract The phenomenon of dumping used tires has reached significant levels, with “tire graveyards” containing millions of tires being formed in remote areas of the world. This study aims to see whether recycled products made from tires can be used to make ‘green concrete’ that can potentially enhance the properties of concrete pavements. Some concrete mixes containing different doses of several tire products produced promising results. Finite element modeling was then used to validate the experimental results (with discrepancies not exceeding 15%) and to simulate truck movement on a pavement made with select concrete mixes, also showing promising results.
