This display device includes: a light-diffusing member including a base material, a plurality of light-shielding layers, and a light-diffusing unit; and a polarizing plate. The light-diffusing member is configured so as to anistropically diffuse light incident from the polarizing plate side. The light-diffusing unit has: a light-emission end surface in contact with the base material; a light-incident end surface facing the light-emission end surface and having a larger surface area than the light-emission end surface; and a reflective surface in contact with the light-emission end surface and the light-incident end surface, and which reflects light incident from the light-incident end surface. The height from the light-incident end surface of the light-diffusing unit to the light-emission end surface is greater than the layer thickness of the light-shielding layers; and the azimuth direction in which the diffusion characteristics of the light-diffusing member are relatively strong and the transmission axis for the polarizing plate are roughly parallel.
