Recurrent necroinflammatory disease of multiple organs and colon. Systemic presentation of inflammatory bowel disease or gut involvement during systemic disorder.

1996
Extraintestinal manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease are relatively common, and features such as arthralgia and erythema nodosum are routinely scored to evaluate disease activity in the individual patient. In certain patients with Crohn's disease (CD) prominent inflammatory involvement of the skin may exhibit the characteristics of Sweet's syndrome, as described by ourselves (1) and reviewed by others (2). The recent literature (3) reports on a case of alleged CD of the colon that was heralded three years in advance by the onset of sterile abscesses in the abdominal lymph nodes, spleen, and central nervous system (CNS). We have observed another case, which, despite striking similarities with the previous one, prompted a reevaluation of the subject.
