Research progress on mitochondrial DNA alteration in colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common gastroenteric tumors, morbidity and mortality of colorectal cancer remains high, therefore, the research on CRC tumorigenesis is of important clinical value. It has been reported that mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is also involved in biological process of tumor, which provides a new idea for CRC tumorigenesis mechanism study. This review provides an overview of the latest progress on mtDNA alteration in colorectal cancer.
