Effectiveness and safety of rifaximin capsule in the treatment of acute infectious diarrhea and determination its plasma concentration

2007
Objective To eveluate the efficacy and safety of rifaximin capsule in the treatment of acute infectious diarrhea and determinate its plasma concentration of rifaximin after oral administration in patients. Methods It was a randomized, comparative, prospective clinical trial. The dosage of rifaximin (35 cases, trial) was 200 mg,q 6 h. The dosage of levofloxacin (33 cases, control) was 200 mg q12 h.The duration of treatment was 3 days in both groups. The total number of enrolled subjects was 70.Ten patients in trial group accepted analysis of plasma concentration after oral administraion. All patients were assessed efficacy and safety. Results The mean length of the time from initiation of therapy to passage of last unformed stool(TLUS)of rifaximin group was 33.56 h ,the other was 31.13 h. There was no significant difference between them(P0.05).Final assessment of effectiveness of two drugs indicated that there was no significant difference between them(P0.05).Conclusion Rifaximin was rarely absorbed after oral administration,it was a effective and safe drug in treating acute infectious diarrhea.
