Clinical significance of joint detection of procalcitonin and interleukin-6 in the pathogen diagnosis of infectious disease

2014
Objective To study the changes of serum procalcitonin (PCT) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the clinical value in the pathogen diagnosis of infectious disease. Methods Using the Up-converting Phosphor Technology based Lateral Flow assay (UPT) to detect 79 cases of bacterial infections,59 cases of viral infectious diseases and 68 cases of healthy normal human serum PCT,IL-6 content, and using receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve to analyse. Results Bacterial infection group PCT and IL-6 were significantly higher than that of virus group and normal control group, there was significant difference (P <0.05),PCT and IL-6 in virus group and normal control group virus infection were not significantly different (P > 0.05) ; application analysis of ROC curves of PCT and IL-6 in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of bacterial infection efficiency, the area under the curve were 0.854 and 0.783,PCT was more effective than IL-6 ; PCT and IL-6 in the detection of bacterial infection,a linear correlation (r =0.424 P < 0.001) ; single PCT detection, the sensitivity and specificity were 82.3% and 79.5%,the sensitivity and specificity of IL-6 were 69.6% and 68.5%,the combination of the two detection sensitivity and specificity were 91.1% and 67%.Conclusion In the diagnosis of pathogen infection,PCT is a good index,if combined with IL-6 detection, differential diagnosis is more conducive to bacteria, virus infection disease.
