Epigenetic treatment of neurodegenerative disorders

Abstract Recently, the important role that epigenetic regulation plays in the development and progression of different neurodegenerative disorders (NDDs) has been established. Histone modifications are one of the main epigenetic mechanisms linked to these diseases. Targeting histone modifications might become a potential pharmacological tool in the management of these NDDs. This chapter discusses the latest advances in the role of histone modifications, its implications in NDDs such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and Huntington’s, and preclinical and clinical studies with histone modification-based treatments in the management of NDDs.
