SYNTHESIS AND PRELIMINARY EVALUATION OF NOVEL 1, 5-BENZOTHIAZEPINE DERIVATIVES AS ANTI-LUNG CANCER AGENTS

2013
ABSTRACT A series of novel 1, 5-benzothiazepine derivatives having a biologically active thiazepine moiety was synthesized by the condensation of substituted chalcones with 2-aminothiophenol using conventional as well as non-conventional methods. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds were confirmed by FTIR, 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, mass spectral data and elemental analysis. All the newly synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro anticancer activity against human lung cancer cell line (A549) using Adriamycin as a reference drug. Keywords: 1,5-benzothiazepine derivatives, anticancer activity, chalcone, 2- aminothiophenol INTRODUCTION Heterocyclic compounds containing nitrogen and sulphur such as benzothiazepines and benzodiazepines have received considerable attention in recent years. Benzothiazepines have been claimed of various therapeutic activities like antimicrobial [1] , anti-HIV [2] , anti-cytotoxic [3] , anti inflammatory [4] and anti cancer
