Quelques données sur la contamination chimique de la chouette chevêche, Athene noctua et de ses oeufs en France

1995
Within the framework of a study on the cause of decline of the Little Owl Athene noctua in France, the effects of toxic chemicals were looked at. Organochlorine pesticide, PCB and heavy metal (mercury, lead and cadmium) levels were measured in 40 infertile eggs and 12 birds killed on the road, from different regions in France. Organochlorine levels are low and less than they were 15 years ago in Europe. Concentrations vary according to geographical distribution. Certain PCB and lead levels are higher than those found in forest dwelling owls. We were unable to show any effect on fecundity.
