CULTURA VISUAL E MEMÓRIA GRÁFICA EM EX-LÍBRIS

The ex-libris, as a graphic artifact that registers theownership of books, presents visual, linguistic and/or iconic signs, which are sometimes endowed withartistic qualities. And above all, the materiality,form and content of this object are memory traces,since they represent cultural practices, consump-tion habits, social relations and lifestyles that oc-curred in a certain period. In this context, the aimof this study is to identify and reflect on the graphicmemory from what the ex-libris technically pro-duces and conveys, developing a cataloging sheet.To this end, a literature review was conducted ontopics related to graphic memory, visual cultureand ex-libris. As methodological procedures, theex-libris were found and photographed in collec-tions of rooms of the Bibliotheca Rio-Grandense.Specimens that clearly presented their signs wereselected. The study shows that these artifacts arememory supports and allow us to glimpse elementsof visual culture and graphic memory of severalpeoples.
