Variation in nitrate utilization and chlorate resistance amongst parents and progeny of Phytophthora drechsleri

A preliminary genetical study of nitrogen source utilization and chlorate resistance in Phytophthora drechsleri is described. Whilst the ability to utilize nitrate as sole nitrogen source may be under the control of a single gene, the response to chlorate in the presence of a complex nitrogen source appeared to be under polygenic control.
