Some long-term benefits of coronary artery bypass surgery

1987
Some long-term benefits were calculated in 100 cases of coronary artery disease randomly allocated to surgical or medical treatment. The marginal cost for care of the “surgical group” was USD 121820 (FIM 591460) higher than for the “medical group”. This investment yielded 71 life-years and 55 work-years. The excess hospital costs in surgical treatment were covered by the higher incomes in that group.
