A process for producing a brake piston made of plastic

1997
The invention concerns a method of producing a plastics brake piston (2) having improved heat conductivity and greater resistance to heat. According to this method, the plastics piston (2) is undetachably provided with a pot-shaped metal insert (3) which is extrusion-coated in a simple manner with a suitable plastics compound using a spring collet (7) and moulding tools (4, 5). When the shaping process is terminated, the hardened plastics piston (2) with integral metal insert (3) is removed from the mould and delivered to the second process section of the production method, the tempering process, in order to define the desired mechanical properties of the plastics piston. The plastics piston is then removed from the production method as a finished part. In comparison with metal pistons, a plastics piston of this type has advantages with respect to production and weight. Its heat-sensitivity is considerably reduced as compared with other plastics pistons owing to the shape of the pot-shaped metal insert (3).
