Selective laser sintering of metal and ceramic compound structures

2006
Publisher Summary In different application scenarios, compound structures of different material like metal and ceramic are needed to increase durability and reliability of industrial goods with reference to surface hardness, wear and temperature stability. Therefore, selective laser sintering has been tested in experimental series, how such structures could be generated. This chapter presents the achieved results of the basic targets (connection mechanism, creation of interfaces, bonding forces, homogeneity, and porosity) and discusses technical application of sintered metal and ceramic compound structures. These applications include Technical application of such compound structures mouldings for plastic and metal, tools for sheet forming and moulding ties, coverings for combustion chambers or cylinder heads and valves in engines.
