This meal detection device is provided with: a detection unit for detecting an increase in heart rate; a separation unit for extracting, as a meal candidate, a time range until the increased heart rate detected by the detection unit decreases to a predetermined level in a change in heart rate over time, and separating, when a second meal candidate is extracted in the time range of the extracted first meal candidate, the first meal candidate and the second meal candidate on the basis of a predetermined line; and a detection unit for detecting whether each of the first meal candidate and the second meal candidate separated by the separation unit indicates a meal or not on the basis of meal-associated characteristic amounts of the first meal candidate and the second meal candidate.
