The present invention relates to a method for operating a drive train of a motor vehicle having an engine which is selectively coupled to the drive train by means of a aktuierbaren by an actuator coupling. The coupling has a first, a drive shaft of the motor associated coupling part and a second, the drive train associated coupling part. A clutch engagement includes the steps of: - acceleration of the first coupling part by the engine for reducing a rotational speed difference between the first coupling part and the second coupling part with simultaneous activation of the actuator during a first Aktuierungsphase to overcome a dead space of the coupling, wherein the coupling parts are not yet engaged with each other, - exposing the activation of the actuator by overcoming the dead space and before engagement of the coupling parts, as long as a predetermined rotational speed difference has not been reached, - re-activation of the actuator during a second Aktuierungsphase for engagement of the coupling parts, when the predetermined speed difference is reached or exceeded.
