Combined electric heating of glass in flat-glass furnaces

The authors propose a design for a combined electric and gas-fired furnace which involves the retrofitting of existing gas-fired furnaces used in the melting of glass with electrical heating elements. They justify the design and its implementation from both a cost-efficient and energy-efficient standpoint and cite the productivity and capacity improvements achieved by a plant where the furnace has already been rebuilt according to their recommendations.
