Medical and social rehabilitation of coal miners suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis

: Long-term results of treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in those miners (n-169) working in coal mines of the Luhansk Oblast were studied together with results of their medical and work rehabilitation. The study made showed a low efficacy of treatment in the remote period, with cure having been achieved in 36.8 percent of cases, progression of the process recordable in ten percent of them. Over the period of four years, every fifth subject of the examinees died, with 54 percent of them having died of progressive tuberculosis. Of the able-bodied persons, 40 percent resumed their work activities, with 58.5%--in their previous occupation; of these, 16.7% of individuals experienced exacerbation of the tuberculous process in the lungs in the process of work.
