Effects of amino acids on callus differentiation in barley anther culture
1990
Supplements of 8 mgl-1 L-Alanine (L-Ala), L-Asparagine (L-Asn), L-Glutamine (L-Gln) and L-Alanine + L-Asparagine to modified MS media increased the frequency of differentiation and the percentage of green plant regeneration in barley callus. It also decreased the ratio of albino to green plants. The actions of amino acids were related to distinct isozyme electrophoretic patterns, the activity of peroxidase and the mino acids content of the callus. The possible mechanisms of action of amino acids on callus differentiation and green plant regeneration are briefly discussed.
