Short communication Predictors of tonsillar tissue HIV-1 viral burden at baseline and after 1 year of antiretroviral therapy

Despite sustained viral load suppression in plasma, HIV RNA can be detected in tonsillar tissue in some patients (TTVL) [1,2]. Lymphatic tissue biopsies are an invasive procedure and difficult to be repeated. It would be useful to study the relationships among the different virological, immunological and histological measures in both tonsillar tissue (TT) and peripheral blood before and after 1 year of antiretroviral therapy (ART). We also analysed the predictors of an effective virological response in TT after 1 year of therapy.
