Other Arrhythmic Disorders: WPW, CPVT, Brugada and Idiopathic VF/VT
2021
A central component in the cardiovascular screening and evaluation of athletes is the identification of arrhythmic disorders that may place them at increased risk for sudden cardiac death during strenuous exercise. These disorders include Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), Brugada syndrome, and idiopathic ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. The identification and management of these arrhythmic disorders can be challenging. The focus of this chapter is to discuss these conditions in the context of the highly active patient and to review how management needs to be specially tailored to the athlete.
