Integration of robots in automatic component insertion

The increasing use of printed circuit boards together with the high rate of technological change has prompted great interest in totally mechanised manufacture. At Plessey Network & Office Systems Ltd., previous experience with robotics, highly automated proprietary component insertion machines, surface mount machines and mechanisation projects has prompted work on the integration of these individual printed circuit board assembly elements with soldering and test equipment into a highly automated flexible assembly facility.
