One of the issues of the first «Freiburg Symposium on Vitamin K» in 1986 was vitamin K prophylaxis in the newborn. General vitamin K prophylaxis was recommended for prevention of the late form of vitamin K deficiency bleeding (frequency: >1: 30,000 live birth, 50% intracranial bleeding).
