A method for producing a fiber-reinforced composite material, which involves impregnating a fibrous structure with a resin utilizing the pressure difference between a vacuum pressure and an atmospheric pressure and then curing the resin. The method is characterized by comprising impregnating a fibrous structure (10), which has a mode value of the sizes of openings each surrounded by fibers of 0.03 to 3 mm 2 and a porosity of 0.1 to 10%, with a mixture of a powdery flame retardant agent (21) and a bromine-containing resin (22) from the planar direction of the fibrous structure (10) to allow the powdery flame retardant agent (21) to be unevenly distributed on the surface of the fibrous structure (10), wherein the powdery flame retardant agent (21) contains at least one component selected from aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide and has an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 20 μm. According to the present invention, a fiber-reinforced composite material having high flame retardancy, a light weight and high strength can be produced in a simple manner.
