Estado da arte de pesquisas sobre pessoas com deficiência intelectual nos últimos 20 anos (1998 a 2018)

This article aimed to identify and analyze the Brazilian scientific production that people with intellectual disabilities had as a theme. This is an exploratory survey that presented scientific productions from three sources of reference for Special Education: Special Education Journal (UFSM), Brazilian Journal of Special Education (RBEE) and the annals of GT-15, Special Education of ANPED, which had been published between 1998 and 2018 (20 years) and focused on intellectual disability. Thirty-nine studies were identified that dealt with the theme. The results showed that 92% (n = 37) of the studies were carried out from Higher Education Institutions. Most studies are concentrated in the Southeast region (n = 22; 56%) and the South region (n = 11; 27%). The main themes of the studies covered the conception and singularities of the individual with ID (n = 7; 17%) and the identification and evaluation of ID (n = 5; 12%). On the other hand, there were no studies that dealt with the labor market or the work developed by specialized institutions with this public. Studies that focus on the subject of ID are scarce, and it is understood that conducting studies on ID can contribute to the dissemination of new understandings that increase the possibilities of perception and participation of the person with ID.
