Revisión sobre la vacunación frente al Virus del Papiloma Humano en hombres y mujeres

2019
Objective: To know if there exist and similar possibilities to women, that justify the prevention of HPV through vaccination in the male population. Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out in the databases CUIDEN, Pubmed, MedLine, CSIC, Scielo and Fama Catalog, from 2005 to 2016. Results: The main mechanism of transmission of HPV is the sexual route. There are two vaccines for the prevention of HPV within the Spanish immunization schedule, with free coverage exclusively for girls. The safety and effectiveness of the vaccines have been evaluated. HPV is a causal factor of precancerous lesions in the genitals, in the rectal and oropharyngeal area. Conclusions: Vaccines against HPV are safe and effective in the general population. HPV is the causal factor of neoplastic lesions and its prevention through vaccines in men and women is essential.
