Development of Cascaded Multilevel Inverter Topology

In this work, a single phase cascaded multilevel inverter topology is proposed which will work in both symmetrical and asymmetrical magnitude of DC sources voltage. Proposed topology has two main parts i.e basic unit and polarity reversal unit. This topology is simple to understand and can be easily cascaded for generating more level in output voltage. Proposed topology will generate 31/21/13 level when two basic units are cascaded in asymmetrical source configuration and require four bidirectional switches, eight unidirectional switches, twelve gate driver and four DC voltage sources. Fundamental switching frequency based nearest level control (NLC) technique is used to generating gate signal for switches. A comparative analysis is made with already existing topologies and proposed topology in term of their semiconductor switch count, gate driver count, DC source count, etc. Experimental results are proposed in this paper for practical validation of developed topology.
