Lipid Coated Calcium Phosphate Nanoparticles for Drug Delivery

2013
Liposomes as drug carriers have shown huge success to improve the healthcare of patients. However, only few liposomal anticancer formulations are approved by FDA for clinical use. After intravenous injection, liposomes are rapidly removed from blood by cells of the reticuloendothelial system(RES).In addition, the development of safe and effective liposomal formulations is also limited by the targeted delivery into tumor cells and the release of drug in tumor cells.Herein, the authors review the progress of their lab to overcome the drawback of traditional liposomes and mainly focus on the development and application of novel lipid coated calcium phosphate nanoparticle and lipid coated cisplatin nanoparticle for anticancer therapy.
