Nonlinear optical properties of lutetium and dysprosium bisphthalocyanines at 1550 nm with femto- and nanosecond pulse excitation

2017
Abstract In this work, the nonlinear optical properties of unsubstituted lutetium (LuPc 2 ) and dysprosium (DyPc 2 ) bisphthalocyanines as well as octasubstituted Lu(PcR 8 ) 2 derivative with R=-S(C 6 H 13 ) were studied at a wavelength of 1550 nm with 10 ns and 300 fs pulses. Based on Z-scan measurements the nonlinear absorption and refraction coefficient as well as the nature of nonlinear optical properties were analyzed for these materials. Open aperture Z-scan indicates strong two-photon absorption in all three bisphthalocyanines in nano- and femtosecond regimes. With good nonlinear optical coefficients, bisphthalocyanines of rare earth elements are expected to be promising materials for the creation of optical limiters.
