A new approach to the application of fibre structure electrodes in alkaline batteries for telecommunication

2001
Alkaline batteries have been used in stationary applications for many years. The have excellent properties in a wide range of temperatures. In addition to the conventional pocket plate and sintered electrodes, metallized fibres as basic electrode material has been introduced. The fibre technology has been successfully used in several fields of applications including stationary batteries, electric traction, vehicles, aircraft and space research. Hoppecke Batterie Systerne GmbH is producing a wide variety of Ni/Cd batteries based on the fibre structure electrode technology for industrial applications ranging from low rate cells up to cells designed for extreme current demands. Similar to the Ni/Cds there is a new development on Ni/MH for industrial applications. In the paper electrochemical results of electrochemical tests obtained with the new cells are compared and discussed.
