Quality urban design: is it just aesthetics?

This paper will discuss Transit New Zealand’s position on urban design and what it means for new state highway projects. It will outline Transit’s implementation plan to improve Transit’s performance, which includes: raising awareness of the value and meaning of quality urban design; using best practice groups to develop design guides to achieve urban design principles; and promoting Transit’s urban design initiatives to other road controlling authorities and transport providers.
