TESTS OF THE TOROIDAL FIELD COILS OF TORE SUPRA

The toroidal field of Tore Supra is produced by 18 superconducting coils. The high toroidal field value, the large and fast poloidal field variations and the overall mechanical modulus of the coil led to the choice of a Nb-Ti monolithic conductor cooled by superfluid helium at 1.8K and atmospheric pressure.
