Transitions to adulthood: a national survey of Egyptian adolescents.

This document presents the contemporary situation in the transition to adulthood among the Egyptian youth during the 1997 National Survey. More than 9000 Egyptian adolescents 10-19 years old and their parents were interviewed in the study. The first chapter sums up the objectives definitions and the institutional collaboration used in the study. Chapter 2 presents the methodology used and scope of the study. Chapters 3-6 describe the characteristics of the sample health and educational profiles and the economic roles of the Egyptian adolescents. Chapter 7 examines the social relationships of these adolescents towards family and peers and the profiles of their family and peer psychological support. Chapter 8 discusses the transition of the youth to marriage and their reproductive roles. Chapter 9 describes the characteristics of adolescent marriage particularly in a womans perspectives. The last chapter presents implications for advocacy and action on the major issues particularly on health priorities education employment reproductive health and married adolescents.
