The present invention relates to a process for coating especially transparent polycarbonate substrates in which a transparent coating composition comprising (A) at least one radiation-curable binder, (B) nanoparticles and (C) optionally at least one reactive diluent and / or optionally a solvent, to a polycarbonate substrate is applied, characterized in that the coating agent contains silica nanoparticles (B), the nanoparticles have a d less than 15 wt .-% of the particles have a particle size in the range of less than 80 nm, 75 to 95 wt .-% of the particles have a particle size in the range of 80 to 300 nm, 0 to 5 wt .-% of the particles have a particle size in the range of more than 300 to 1,000 nm and 0 to 5 wt .-% of the particles have a particle size in the range of more than 1,000 nm to 10,000 nm. Also subject of the present invention, the coating compositions used in this process as well as obtainable by the process coated polycarbonate substrates.
