Photoinduced effects and real structure of crystals of yttrium aluminum garnet

The authors have investigated the defect state in these crystals and their behavior under the influence pf intense light pumping. They find some photoinduced changes in the refractive indices and absorption coefficients of the crystals, due to the presence of point defects and their optical charge exchange. On the basis of the results obtained by various physical methods they suggest a model of the defect center associated with the photochromic effect in the crystal.
