Sexual activity in COPD patients included in a pulmonary rehabilitation program

2017
Introduction: Impact of COPD in sexual activity has an important role in quality of life. The aim of this study is to analyse sexual activity of male patients included in pulmonary rehab; to determine the role of sexual hormones in sexual activity and to determine if pulmonary rehab improves sexual activity in these patients. Methods: 62 COPD patients who atended pulmonary rehab were included in this study. Testosterone, LH, FSH, Estradiol and progesterone were determined in these patients. IIEF (International Index of erectile function) test was performed before and after pulmonary rehab to see changes in activity and sexual desire. Results: Are shown in table 1 and 2. Conclusion: Patients with COPD included in pulmonary rehab showed low sexual activity. No hormonal differences were detected among sexual active patients compared to non active. Pulmonary rehab showed improvement in sexual activity but not in sexual desire using IIEF.
